Gas Malaysia Teams Up with PETRONAS Gas on Yan LNG Terminal Pipeline Study
Gas Malaysia Bhd has partnered with PETRONAS Gas Bhd to study the feasibility of constructing a pipeline connecting the proposed Yan LNG terminal in Kedah to the Peninsular Gas Utilization system. The joint study will assess technical, operational, and commercial viability, including engineering design and land acquisition requirements.
Under the collaboration agreement, Gas Malaysia and PETRONAS Gas will conduct a feasibility study on the pipeline interconnection. This project forms part of the Pulau Bunting Integrated Development, a RM14.4 billion initiative launched in September 2022, which includes a 1,600MW combined cycle gas turbine power plant and an LNG terminal.
The proposed pipeline connection aims to support the development of the Yan LNG regasification terminal, estimated to cost up to RM3 billion. Gas Malaysia will act as project lead and sponsor with a 70% participating interest, while Tokyo Gas Co Ltd and VTTI BV each hold 15%. The study outcome will provide information needed for the company's submission to the Energy Commission of Malaysia.
