Gas Prices Soar Amid Ongoing Conflict with Iran
Gas prices continue to rise in most states, including Oregon and Washington. The national average price for regular gas is at its highest ever for this time of year, reaching $4.07 per gallon. In Oregon, the average price is also increasing, up five cents to $4.72 per gallon.
The elevated crude oil prices are driving up pump prices, with the war in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz contributing to the volatility. Crude oil has been above $80 since August 10, affecting global supplies and pushing prices higher.
Marie Dodds, public affairs director for AAA Oregon/Idaho, notes that pump prices typically settle down in August as the summer driving season winds down. However, this year's conflict with Iran is keeping prices elevated.
