Gas Prices Soar to $4.11 Nationwide Amid Crude Oil Volatility
The national average price for a gallon of gasoline has reached $4.11, up 11 cents from last Monday, according to AAA Western and Central New York.
This is a significant increase from one year ago when the price was $3.15. The New York state average is also on the rise at $4.23, which is up 8 cents from last week.
The main reason for the surge in gas prices is the rising crude oil prices. Volatility along the Strait of Hormuz and instability in the region have pushed crude oil prices into the high-$90-per-barrel range last week. This morning, oil prices range from $85 to $91 per barrel.
Diesel prices are also up this week, with the national average at $5.30, up 19 cents from last week. The New York state average for diesel fuel is $5.59, up 11 cents from last week.
