Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, the prime minister's finance and planning adviser, said that Bangladesh's gas supply situation is expected to return to normal within a few days. The government has been importing gas from alternative sources and taking various measures to address the crisis.

The country's current gas demand is around 3,800 mmcfd, against a supply of 2,600-2,700 mmcfd. Of this, 1,600 mmcfd comes from domestic sources and 1,000 mmcfd from liquefied natural gas (LNG). Titumir mentioned that new customers have applied for gas connections, which could increase the total national demand to around 5,200 mmcfd.

The government has reached a memorandum of understanding with a Chinese company to set up a land-based LNG terminal at Matarbari with a capacity of 1,000 mmcfd, as well as a 600 mmcfd floating LNG terminal (FSRU) in the deep sea off Maheshkhali.
