Gas Supply Crisis Eases Gradually Amid LNG Terminal Resumption
Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman, Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser, expressed hope that the ongoing gas supply crisis will ease gradually. The crisis has caused power shortages and load-shedding across the country, making life difficult for people amid the intense heat.
The government requires around 3,800 million cubic feet of gas per day, but this level of supply has not been possible for a long time. To meet the shortfall in domestic gas production, Bangladesh has become dependent on LNG imports.
One of the country's two operational Floating LNG terminals experienced a fire incident, which is currently unable to operate at full capacity. As a result, gas supply to the national grid has fallen significantly.
The adviser said the damaged terminal will gradually resume gas supply, increasing it in phases instead of returning to full capacity at once. This will help decrease additional electricity demand and ease both the gas and power crises.
