Gas Supply Improves, But Industries Struggle with Low Pressure
Despite an improvement in gas supply to power plants, industries in Bangladesh continue to struggle due to low pressure at their facilities.
The country's LNG supply has increased to around 800 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), but the demand for gas remains high at approximately 3,800 mmcfd.
Power generation has improved slightly, with power plants now receiving around 930 mmcfd of gas, allowing them to generate up to 5,300 megawatts (MW) of electricity.
However, factories are still operating at reduced capacity due to insufficient gas pressure, which averages around 50-60 percent of normal levels in several areas.
The shortage has led to increased costs for factory owners, with some companies spending Tk 7-8 lakh a day on diesel just to operate their washing machines.
