Prime Minister's Finance and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir expressed hope that gas supply in Bangladesh will return to normal within a few days. The current gas supply is between 2,600-2,700 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), which falls short of the total demand of 3,800 mmcfd.

Titumir stated that the government has taken various initiatives to meet the increasing demand for gas. An agreement has been reached with a Chinese company to establish an onshore LNG terminal at Matarbari with a capacity of 1,000 mmcfd and a floating LNG terminal (FSRU) in the deep sea off Maheshkhali with a capacity of 600 mmcfd.

The adviser also highlighted the importance of energy security, stating that it is not just a matter of technology or management, but also depends on deliberate political decisions by the government. He criticized the previous government's policies regarding drilling new gas wells and emphasized the need for sustainable solutions to meet the country's growing energy needs.
