Gas Supply Reaches 2,610 mmcf After Months of Disruptions
Bangladesh's gas supply has reached a significant milestone after months of disruptions caused by an incident at the Excelerate-operated Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) in Moheshkhali.
The latest figures from Petrobangla show that total gas supply stood at 2,610 mmcf at noon on September 15, comprising 1,620 mmcf of domestic gas and 990 mmcf of imported LNG (RLNG).
This marks a significant improvement over the previous night's supply level of 2,582 mmcf, with RLNG contributing 980 mmcf. The Excelerate FSRU was damaged in a fire incident on July 21, disrupting gas supply from the terminal for several weeks.
The FSRU gradually resumed operations in August but experienced another interruption on August 19 after running out of LNG, causing national gas supply to plummet to around 2,185 mmcf per day. However, on August 22, the terminal resumed supply, initially injecting around 100 mmcf of gas into the national grid.
The latest rise in RLNG supply has brought overall supply closer to the pre-incident level, with Petrobangla data showing that the increase comes as a result of the Excelerate-operated FSRU resuming higher LNG supply to the national grid.
