Gastech 2026 Convenes in Bangkok Amid Global Energy Security Concerns

Gastech 2026, the energy conference in Bangkok, kicked off on September 14th with over 50,000 attendees from 150 countries. The event focuses on natural gas, LNG, low-carbon solutions, and AI. Energy security, resilient supply chains, and Asia's evolving position in the global gas and LNG market dominated the first day's agenda.

Thailand Minister of Energy Akanat Promphan emphasized the significance of natural gas and LNG for bolstering energy security, drawing investment, and sustaining economic growth. He also stressed regional cooperation, infrastructure development, and emerging technologies throughout ASEAN.

LNG supply expansion while preserving affordability, reliability, and reduced emissions is a major theme. Chevron Global Gas President Freeman Shaheen analyzed how escalating energy demand, energy security priorities, and decarbonization objectives are transforming energy systems. He highlighted LNG's contribution to dependable energy while emphasizing the necessity of long-term investment, infrastructure, and industry collaboration.

ExxonMobil is presenting LNG as a scalable marine fuel backed by established infrastructure, supply chains, and growing bunkering capabilities. Shell is assessing the investment needed in production capacity and infrastructure to underpin long-term energy security, while emphasizing cooperation among governments, producers, and customers.
