GCC Condemns Attack on Saudi Oil Pipeline, Backs Riyadh's Security Measures
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has condemned an attack on Saudi Arabia's East-West oil pipeline, calling it a 'dangerous escalation' and a threat to the kingdom's security and territorial integrity.
GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi reaffirmed the council's full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and expressed support for the measures taken by Riyadh to protect its security, stability, and infrastructure facilities.
The attack, which occurred on Thursday morning in the Riyadh and Medina regions, resulted in several drones striking the pipeline. The country's Ministry of Energy reported that the pipeline was shut down as a precautionary measure, and emergency and technical teams were dispatched to secure it and assess its condition.
Riyadh said it would not launch a retaliatory strike for now after Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi requested an opportunity to prevent new attacks from Iraqi territory. However, the Saudi government reserved the right to take necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security, and infrastructure.
