Gen Z Flocks to Physical Gold Amid Global Uncertainty
Sussi Ye, a 32-year-old resident of Hangzhou in eastern China's Zhejiang province, has been buying gold bars since the start of the year.
She currently holds about 200,000 yuan (US$29,700) worth of physical gold and hasn't sold any, despite its price swings.
'I prefer investing in physical gold instead of gold-linked financial products,' Ye said. 'I like that it's tangible, you can hold it, and that gives you a sense of security.'
According to London-based dealer IBV Gold London, demand for physical gold among Gen Z is rising due to geopolitical tensions and market uncertainties.
'Younger investors have experienced a lot of uncertainty, inflation, geopolitical tensions, volatile markets and concerns about the strength of currencies and the wider economy,' said Yuvana Singh, manager at IBV Gold London.
