German Company Uniper Secures Long-Term LNG Deal with BC's Ksi Lisims
A major long-term agreement has been reached between German company Uniper and British Columbia's Ksi Lisims, representing the first significant long-term LNG supply deal between Canada and Germany.
Under the terms of the agreement, Uniper will purchase two million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquefied natural gas (LNG), approximately 30 TWh per year, on a free-on-board basis for up to 20 years. First deliveries are expected from 2032.
Uniper's CEO, Michael Lewis, hailed the agreement as 'far more than LNG', emphasizing its importance in strengthening Uniper's portfolio with a reliable source of LNG from Canada.
The deal comes after recent moves by the federal government to support LNG development in B.C., including fast-tracking phase two of LNG Canada and the proposed Ksi Lisims LNG export terminal, which are still awaiting final investment decisions.
