Germany's Winter Gas Supply Woes Grow as Storage Levels Lag Behind Schedule
Germany's natural gas storage facilities are struggling to reach their required targets ahead of winter. The country aims to refill its storage to 80% capacity by November 1, but current filling rates suggest this goal may be out of reach.
The German Gas Transmission System Operators Association has warned that reaching the target at the current pace is 'almost impossible.' Storage levels are currently at around 50%, making it increasingly difficult to meet legally required targets. The government's energy policy has come under fire from opposition parties and industry representatives, who argue that current measures are insufficient to guarantee supply security.
Alice Weidel, co-leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany party, criticized the government, saying 'Facilities are half empty, and the level has never been this low. The government is endangering supply security with its wrong policies.'
