Ghalibaf Slams US Oil Price Efforts
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has mocked Washington's efforts to curb rising oil prices, stating that they will fail to reverse the trend. In a post on X, he said that the US Treasury would exhaust its arsenal of measures, including false reporting and market intervention, but ultimately fall short.
Ghalibaf was reacting to Brent crude climbing above $107 a barrel on Thursday. He criticized Washington's attempts to bring down oil prices, saying they will run through their measures in a specific order.
The surge in oil prices has been attributed to the US-Israeli war against Iran and the subsequent closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian Armed Forces. The waterway is crucial to global energy markets, carrying around one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supplies.
