Ghalibaf Taunts Bessent Over US Economic Vulnerabilities
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has taken aim at US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, suggesting that Washington's economy is increasingly vulnerable to rising oil prices and high borrowing costs.
Ghalibaf pointed to three indicators in a sarcastic post on X: oil futures, the 10-year Treasury yield, and the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). He directly challenged Bessent over the US efforts to contain energy market pressure, saying 'Short harder, champ. Like your career depends on it (because it does)'.
Ghalibaf warned that if the US depletes its oil reserves below a 'danger zone', America's caverns would collapse, along with Bessent's career.
