Ghalibaf Warns US of Economic Consequences Over Energy Infrastructure
Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has warned the US of severe economic consequences if it targets Iranian energy infrastructure. He made this statement as tensions between Tehran and Washington continue to escalate, with both sides trading threats.
Ghalibaf pointed out that oil and gas infrastructure in the region is vulnerable and exposed, making American oil and gas companies at risk of retaliation. He shared an image featuring oil pipelines in the background, accompanied by a message reading: 'The lost decade of the US Economy is coming, because some clowns at D.O. [I]. W. decided so.'
This warning comes after US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth claimed that Iran's oil tanker fleet was vulnerable and warned Tehran against attacking American ships. Hegseth stated that if Iran shoots at US ships, the US will destroy their oil tankers, adding that Iran has no navy or air force to defend its oil tankers.
The confrontation has raised concerns over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy supplies. Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei said Tehran would keep the waterway open if the US stopped threatening or attacking Iran.
