Global Energy Markets Converge on New Iran-Independent Supply Chain
Global energy markets are bracing for a seismic shift as major powers like the US, Israel, and Saudi Arabia work together to isolate Iran's oil exports. The Strait of Hormuz, which is approximately 33 kilometres wide at its narrowest navigable point, carries around 20% of all global oil and LNG flows daily.
Tehran's military forces command the strait's entire eastern flank, giving them the capacity to obstruct or threaten traffic at will. This has created a strategic condition with no clear modern precedent.
A private consortium called MERA Oil is building a $5 billion refinery hub in the Gulf region that will be explicitly positioned outside the Strait of Hormuz.
