Global Food Prices Hit Highest Level Since November 2022

The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization reported that global food prices have reached their highest level since November 2022, driven by extreme weather in Europe and war disruptions near the Black Sea.

The FAO's Food Price Index rose to 133.3 points in August, up from a revised 130.8 in July, with grain prices reaching three-year highs and sugar prices at their most expensive point in a year.

Farmers are facing multiple pressures, including severe heat and dry conditions across Europe, forecasts of a strong El Nino weather pattern, and ongoing conflicts near the Black Sea that have disrupted global trade routes.
