Global Food Prices Hit Three-Year High Amid Supply Fears

Global food prices have reached their highest level in over three years due to concerns over key grain export corridors and adverse weather conditions in major growing regions.

The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization reported a 0.6% increase in its index of food-commodity prices in July, led by grain, sugar, and vegetable oils.

The main driver of the price surge is the weakening harvests, trade uncertainty, and persistent weather concerns, particularly in the key Black Sea grain region where Russian and Ukrainian attacks are causing supply fears.

Europe is also facing one of its steepest grain harvest declines on record due to extreme heat, while dryness across major US growing areas is threatening corn and soybean yields.
