Global Gas Demand Hits Record High as LNG Supply Disruption is Mitigated
The International Gas Union (IGU) and Snam released their annual report on global gas demand, revealing that it hit an all-time high of 148.39 trillion cubic feet in 2025, a 1.7% year-over-year increase.
This growth was broad-based, with every region except Oceania posting higher demand. Asia led the way, adding 882.9 billion cubic feet, followed by the Middle East at 635.7 billion cubic feet and Europe at 353.1 billion cubic feet.
The report also notes that global gas production set an all-time record at 146.45 trillion cubic feet in 2025, with North America contributing 1.91 trillion cubic feet of additional output.
However, the Strait of Hormuz crisis in 2026 disrupted around 20% of global LNG supply, but the gas system absorbed the shock with far less price disruption than the 2022 energy crisis.
