Global Grain Market Sees Significant Fluctuations Amid Geopolitical Tensions
The global grain market is experiencing significant fluctuations due to geopolitical tensions and supply concerns. UK feed wheat futures for November 2026 surged by £10.75 (5.2%) to close at £215.75 per tonne on Friday, August 28, marking the contract's highest price so far.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) has entered overbought territory, which could signal a higher risk of a price reversal, but bullish news may still push prices higher. Nearby Chicago wheat futures reached their highest price since February 2023, with the December 2026 contract up 12.1% Friday-to-Friday.
The Black Sea situation remains a key driver of prices, as Russia is considering increasing missile strikes against Ukraine, dimming hopes for Black Sea grain exports. Speculative buying was also cited as a factor in the price surge.
