Global Markets Mixed After Wall Street Gains
Global stock markets were mixed Monday, following Wall Street's gains over the weekend. The Nikkei 225 in Japan led advances with a 2.1% increase to 66,970.22, driven by strong performances from technology companies.
Tokyo Electron, a computer chip equipment maker, climbed 4.1%, while Advantest, a chip testing device manufacturer, rose 6.4%. In contrast, South Korea's Kospi added only 0.7% to 6,299.66, as major chipmakers like Samsung Electronics lost 0.4% and SK Hynix fell 0.1%.
Analysts attributed the foreign investors' sales of Big Tech shares to profit-taking and rebalancing holdings into other industries, such as defense contractors.
In Europe, Germany's DAX rose 0.3% to 26,411.01, while France's CAC 40 edged 0.1% lower to 8,703.73. Britain's FTSE 100 lost 0.3% to 10,869.35.
Oil prices gained after Israel rejected a deal announced by U.S. President Donald Trump for Gaza, with Brent crude increasing 0.8% to $84.23 per barrel and U.S. benchmark crude advancing 0.7% to $78.72 per barrel.
