Global Markets Mixed as Fed Decision Looms and Oil Prices Surge
The global financial markets were in a state of flux on Wednesday as investors awaited the Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates. Meanwhile, oil prices surged after a brief pause in fighting between Iran and its neighbors.
The S&P 500 futures gained 0.2% in premarket trading, while Dow Jones Industrial Average futures lost 0.3%. Nasdaq futures rose by 0.3%. However, the South Korean Kospi stock index fell by 6%, driven by a decline in chipmakers' shares due to doubts over massive investments in artificial intelligence.
Oil prices rebounded as tensions escalated between Iran and its neighbors. Brent crude jumped $3.71 to $85.79 a barrel, while U.S. crude gained $3.78 to $83.04 a barrel.
