Global Markets Rise as Rate Hike Odds Fall
Global stock markets saw gains on Monday as investors became less likely to expect an interest rate hike from the Federal Reserve next month. The CME Group's FedWatch tool now puts the probability of a September rate increase at 30%, down from around 50% last week.
The STOXX benchmark for European stocks rose by 0.21%, while Japan's Nikkei index edged up 0.3%. Chinese blue-chip stocks increased by 0.8%, and the Hang Seng index in Hong Kong gained 1.6%
Oil prices were mixed, with Brent crude down 0.05% after rising 6% last week, while US crude slipped 0.7% to $81.91 a barrel.
