Global Supply Disruptions Send Oil Prices Soaring Again
Global oil prices are on track for weekly gains despite recent declines in Brent and WTI crude futures. On Thursday, Brent settled at a 7% increase, pushing it above $100 a barrel for the first time since May. The rise was driven by escalating geopolitical tensions and concerns over potential disruptions to global oil shipments and supply chains.
The Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb Strait have become hotspots in recent times, sparking worries about the safety of oil transports. As a result, Brent crude futures fell 72 cents, or 0.72%, to $99.97 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures declined by 70 cents, or 0.76%, to $91.49 a barrel.
Despite the recent drop, both Brent and WTI are still poised for weekly gains of 13.5% and 10.9%, respectively. The market's uncertainty over global supply disruptions continues to drive prices upwards, but investors remain cautious as geopolitical tensions escalate.
