Global Tensions Weigh on Indian Markets as Oil Prices Surge
Indian equity markets opened Wednesday's trade on a lower note due to several global factors. The Nifty 50 opened down 220.50 points or 0.92% at 23,835, while the BSE Sensex dropped 682 points or 0.89% to open at 76,262.
Coal India was the top gainer in the Nifty 50, surging 3.46%. Other gainers included Sun Pharma, ONGC, L&T, Adani Ports, Axis Bank, and several others.
The global markets are trading lower after escalation of tensions across West Asia, with Asian markets under pressure. The US futures were also down, following a rally in bond yields. The 10-year US yield surged to its highest level since January 2025, impacting sentiment.
