Global UAN Market Faces Turmoil as Russia-Ukraine Tensions Escalate
The global UAN market is facing significant challenges due to ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine. President Trump's threats of massive tariffs on Russia have raised concerns that the country may be forced to reduce its production of UAN, leading to a shortage in the global supply chain.
According to recent data, Trinidad production has been improving, but European production remains at approximately 75% of normal levels, resulting in a significant shortfall of around two million tons. The loss of Russian UAN exports could exacerbate this issue, putting pressure on the already tight supply and demand (S&D) balance.
Meanwhile, countries such as Australia, Canada, and many across Europe have blocked direct flows of fertilizer from Russia, leading buyers to seek alternative sources, with the US becoming a major exporting nation. However, if the US loses access to Russian UAN, prices are likely to rise further.
