Global Wheat Markets Unfazed by Ukraine Export Disruptions
The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has severely impacted global wheat markets despite the absence of significant price movements. According to graintrade.com.ua, Ukrainian ports have been subjected to intense attacks from Russian forces, with five seaport facilities and three civilian ships in ports targeted just in the first days of August.
During July, a total of 67 seaport facilities, 35 civilian vessels in ports, and 22 vessels in the Ukrainian sea corridor were attacked. This systematic shelling has effectively halted grain exports from Ukraine.
Notably, despite these disruptions, wheat futures have fallen by 10% over the past two weeks, with September wheat futures in Paris falling by 9.2%. The increase in Russian grain supplies and the decreasing number of available ships in Ukrainian ports are likely contributing factors to this price decline.
