Global Wheat Prices Tumble Amid Hopes of Russia-Ukraine Peace Deal
The global wheat market experienced a downturn last week due to hopes of a peace deal in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB) attributed this decline to various factors, including the Russian president's suggestion that a peace deal with Ukraine may still be possible.
UK November 2026 future prices had reached a high of £219.25/t on September 5 but then fell on Thursday and Friday. The contract ended the trading week at £212.50/t, down £3.25/t from the previous Friday. December 2026 Paris wheat futures lost 1.9%, while December 2026 Chicago wheat futures dropped by 6.4%.
The global trend was influenced by selling by speculative traders who had previously bought into Chicago futures markets. Markets will be closely watching to see if negotiations between Russia and Ukraine take place over the coming weeks, which could lead to an increase in export levels through the Black Sea.
