The state of Goa has denied reports of a fuel shortage, despite long queues forming at petrol stations due to social media rumours. The government said that oil terminals in the state had sufficient stock of petrol and diesel, and that supply to retail outlets continued uninterrupted.

According to the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, India has about 60 days' worth of fuel stock cover, which it claims is more than enough to meet current demand. The ministry also stated that there was no rationing of petrol or diesel, and that all pumps across the country were adequately stocked.

The Goa civil supplies department attributed the long queues to 'miscommunication and rumours on social media', which caused panic among residents and vehicle owners. Officials warned that crowding at fuel stations could create law and order issues.
