Gold and Cryptocurrencies Soar Amid Rising Concerns Over US Treasury Market
The price of gold and cryptocurrencies has surged this week amid rising concerns over the US Treasury market. Investors are seeking safe haven assets, driving up prices for gold, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dogecoin.
The gold price reached $4,600 an ounce on Friday, a 5% increase from last week's levels. Bitcoin rose by nearly a quarter to over $78,500, while Dogecoin climbed by more than one-third.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has expressed concern about the rise in yields on long-term government bonds and has intervened in the market twice to reduce pressure on the Japanese government to sell its US Treasury holdings. However, these efforts have yet to improve market sentiment.
The rally is attributed to investors buying safe haven assets amid growing stress in key markets such as US Treasuries. Gold has played a traditional role as a safe haven for centuries, and the current price increase should be taken seriously. Bitcoin's rise is not necessarily driven by its reputation as 'digital gold', but other factors are at play.
New US regulations proposed this week aim to support innovative financial technology, including cryptocurrencies. The White House has also announced plans to adopt a crypto-friendly Clarity Act in mid-September.
