Gold and Silver Prices Plunge Amid Global Macro Uncertainty
Gold and silver prices fell on Tuesday, September 15, in domestic futures trade due to weaker spot demand, selling by participants, and a less supportive global macro environment. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), October gold futures declined ₹530, or 0.35%, to ₹1.50 lakh per 10 grams, while December silver futures dropped ₹1,411, or 0.61%, to ₹2.31 lakh per kg.
Globally, gold and silver prices were also down, with gold futures falling 0.22% at $4,290.06 an ounce and silver trading 0.27% lower at $63.05 an ounce.
Vedika Narvekar from Anand Rathi Share and Stock Brokers said that gold was under 'fresh pressure', with spot prices down 0.77% at around $4,266 an ounce. She attributed the decline to higher crude prices following attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure and a rise in US Treasury yields.
Experts remain cautious about chasing recent price moves, advising investors to consider staggered buying rather than trying to time the market. According to FundsIndia's September 2026 Wealth Conversations report, a portfolio comprising 70% equity, 15% debt, and 15% gold delivered an average seven-year rolling return of 15% since 2000.
