Gold and Silver Soar as Central Banks and Currency Concerns Boost Demand
Gold and silver prices surged this week as investors responded to weakening U.S. labor data, renewed central-bank gold purchases, and growing concerns surrounding major fiat currencies.
Spot gold finished the week at $4,341 per ounce, while spot silver closed at $63.30 per ounce, bringing the gold-silver ratio down to approximately 68:1.
The rally has revived bullish sentiment among market observers, with Bloomberg Executive Editor Mark Cudmore arguing that a weakening Federal Reserve credibility, lower expected real yields, and pressure on the U.S. dollar could allow gold's longer-term bull trend to reassert itself.
