Gold and Silver Soar on Weakening U.S. Economic Data
A surprisingly weak U.S. jobs report led to a surge in gold and silver prices this week, as markets reconsidered the outlook for interest rates and the possibility that a slowing economy could force the Federal Reserve to change course.
Gold jumped more than 7% for its best week since January, while silver prices soared nearly 11%, demonstrating silver's potential to outperform when precious metals begin moving higher.
The World Platinum Investment Council's Director of Research, Edward Sterck, discussed the platinum and palladium markets in an interview with Money Metals' Mike Maharrey. Sterck highlighted platinum's persistent supply deficits, above-ground inventories, automotive demand, recycling, tariffs, geopolitical risks, and potential new applications.
