Gold Bulls Eye $4,000 Support Level as Tensions Rise
Gold prices have been hinting at a bullish reversal as they approach the key support level of $4,000. This area has proven to be a major hurdle for gold bears in recent weeks, with prices repeatedly failing to break below it. According to Matt Simpson from FOREX.com, this could be a sign that the decline is a longer-term correction rather than the start of a multi-year top.
The US dollar's strength remains a significant risk to gold bulls, but easing tensions in the Middle East could pave the way for a pullback in the greenback and provide gold with a catalyst for a rebound. Simpson notes that if portfolio managers use gold as a hedge ahead of the weekend, it may hold above recent lows or at least attempt to.
From a technical perspective, dips towards $4,000 could prompt a minor rebound, but for any bounce to have real legs, weaker crude oil prices and a softer US dollar are likely to be required. Simpson cautions that the risk of a gap higher in oil prices this weekend is genuine, which could weigh on sentiment on Monday.
