Gold ETFs See First Monthly Inflow Since May Amid Geopolitical Tensions
Gold-backed exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw a significant shift in investor sentiment in July, recording net inflows for the first time since May. The World Gold Council's report revealed that North American and European funds experienced the largest inflows, totaling a net amount of gold added to their holdings.
The uptick in gold ETF inflows is attributed to investors taking advantage of a price pullback in June and early July. This 'dip-buying' strategy allowed them to accumulate positions at what many viewed as an attractive entry point after the metal's strong rally in the first half of the year.
While the overall flow picture remains modest compared to the record inflows seen in 2020, the positive trend is a notable development for the gold market. Sustained inflows can support price levels and signal renewed investor confidence, particularly amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and expectations of potential interest rate cuts by major central banks.
