Gold Extends Gains as Rate-Hike Fears Eased Amid Fed Minutes Anticipation
Gold prices rose for a third consecutive session on Tuesday as concerns about a potential US interest rate hike next month eased. The precious metal's value increased by 0.2% to $4,424.28 per ounce, while December delivery gold futures edged 0.2% higher to $4,480.90.
A weaker US dollar against major currencies made dollar-priced metals less expensive for holders of other currencies. The US central bank is expected to keep its key interest rate unchanged next month and through year-end, according to a Reuters poll of most economists.
Market focus will be on the minutes of the Federal Reserve's latest policy meeting, scheduled for release on Wednesday. The minutes could provide fresh clues on the monetary policy path and influence market expectations about future rate hikes or holds.
