Gold Faces Pressure as Oil Prices Soar and Rate Hike Expectations Rise
Rising oil prices have triggered inflation concerns and are weighing on gold's performance. The precious metal is currently in a corrective phase, with spot gold briefly falling to $4,350 per ounce during early Asian trading on Wednesday.
The surge in energy prices is also influencing investor expectations for the Federal Reserve rate hike in September. Market pricing indicates that the probability of a rate hike has risen to approximately 60%, up from around 50% before the employment data release.
New supply concerns have emerged in the energy market, with escalating tensions in the Middle East driving continuous increases in crude oil prices. This has led the market to reassess the impact of energy costs on future inflation.
The upcoming US Producer Price Index (PPI) and Consumer Price Index (CPI) data releases will be crucial in determining gold's direction. If inflation figures continue to exceed expectations, gold may seek further support in the $4,250, $4,300 range.
