Gold Futures Slide Amid Higher US Treasury Yields
Gold futures on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives closed lower on Tuesday due to higher US Treasury yields. According to Quintex Intel global strategist Stephen Innes, rising short-term US Treasury yields have limited gold's upside for now.
The spot-month August 2026 contract dipped to $4,393.70 per troy ounce from Monday's price of $4,402.50, while the September 2026 contract fell to $4,410.30 per troy ounce from $4,418.70 previously. The October and November 2026 contracts both decreased to $4,426.40 per troy ounce from $4,434.50 yesterday.
Trading volume increased to 182 lots from 132 lots on Monday, while open interest surged to 256 contracts from 201 contracts previously. Physical gold was fixed at $4,405.80 per troy ounce at the London Bullion Market Association's afternoon fix on August 17, 2026.
