Gold Momentum Fades as Inflation Concerns Linger
Gold prices remain volatile after the Federal Reserve's decision to keep interest rates unchanged. Despite the rally that followed, gold has struggled to establish fresh highs, suggesting traders are becoming increasingly cautious.
The US economy expanded by 1.5% in the second quarter, below market expectations of 2.1%. This weaker-than-expected growth data initially supported gold prices but has not alleviated inflation concerns. The Federal Reserve emphasized that inflation remains a concern, with several officials favoring an additional 25 basis-point rate increase.
The US dollar's performance is also influencing gold prices. While the dollar has softened from recent highs, traders continue to monitor its direction closely, as any renewed strength could limit further upside in gold.
As Treasury yields remain relatively elevated, reducing the appeal of non-yielding assets like gold, investors are increasingly focused on economic data and Federal Reserve guidance. The market appears to be approaching an area where buyers may begin securing profits, increasing the probability of short-term profit booking.
