Gold Outshines Silver in Safe-Haven Play
Investors often turn to safe-haven assets like gold and silver during times of uncertainty. Both metals reached record levels earlier this year, but their prices crashed sharply after the announcement that Kevin Warsh was President Trump's nominee for the Fed chair position.
The turning point appears to have injected stability into the stock market, leading to a decline in gold and silver prices. Although neither metal has returned to its January highs, they've been rising recently.
One key indicator of which metal may have more upside is the gold-silver price ratio. The current ratio is around 67, with gold trading at $4,400 per ounce and silver at $66.
A higher ratio indicates that investors are favoring gold as a safe-haven asset. During the pandemic in 2020, the ratio spiked to over 110, and during the Great Recession, it reached around 80.
