Gold Price Hits Record High Amid Economic Uncertainty

Gold's price surged to an all-time high near $5,600 per troy ounce in late January 2026, driven by massive inflows into gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs), central bank buying, a weaker U.S. dollar, and economic uncertainty.

However, the precious metal pulled back as the war in Iran caused the dollar to strengthen, leading central banks to become net sellers due to geopolitical risk management processes.

In mid-August, Wells Fargo Investment Institute analyst Mason Mendez observed that gold is regaining momentum, supported by hopes for progress toward negotiations in the Middle East and investors scaling back expectations for Fed rate hikes.
