Gold Price Surge Triggers Australian Gold Producer's First Dividend in Nearly Six Decades
Alkane Resources, an Australian gold producer based in Perth, is set to pay its first dividend in nearly 60 years. The company's chief executive, Nic Earner, attributes this milestone to an unexpected spike in the gold price, which rose to an all-time high of $US5,589.38 on January 28.
This sudden increase exceeded Alkane's budgetary expectations and enabled them to accelerate capital growth projects and pay a dividend. The company will pay two cents per share, fully franked, after releasing its full-year results later in August.
Earners acknowledged that the gold price has since fallen to around $US4,000 but remains strong at $A6,000 an ounce, well above their all-in costs.
