Gold Prices at Crucial Juncture After Month-Long Rally
Gold prices have reached a critical point in their recent rally, sparking interest from traders and analysts. The yellow metal has been on an upward trend for a month, but faced rejection at the significant 200-day moving average of approximately $4,484 per ounce on Wednesday, closing at $4,363 per ounce.
The past month has seen gold prices surge by about 6.3%, outpacing the S&P 500's modest 2% increase. The 200-day moving average is widely regarded as a crucial indicator for differentiating long-term trends from short-term fluctuations.
Renée Friedman, head of global research at Exante, attributes gold's recent rally to diminished expectations of further tightening from the Federal Reserve, driven by weaker labor market data in the U.S. Central banks are likely to continue diversifying their reserves away from U.S. Treasuries, which would support sustained demand for gold.
Ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and sanctions risks have also bolstered gold's appeal as a safe-haven asset. However, despite recent gains, gold prices remain about 22% lower than their all-time high of $5,602 per ounce recorded in January 2026.
