Gold Prices Climb as Dollar Retreats Ahead of FOMC Minutes Release

Gold prices rebounded on Wednesday, August 19, after opening lower due to a softer U.S. dollar and declining Treasury yields.

The December gold futures contract opened at $4,391.40 per troy ounce, down 0.7% from Tuesday's closing price, but quickly reversed course and traded at $4,479.90 per troy ounce as of 8:53 a.m. ET.

The dollar's weakness and the anticipation of Federal Reserve communication created a supportive backdrop for gold in the near term.

Market participants are closely watching the release of the Federal Open Market Committee's minutes from its July meeting, which may offer additional context on policymakers' views regarding economic conditions and the balance of risks.
