Gold Prices Decline Amid US Monetary Policy Uncertainty
Gold prices declined in Asian trading on August 28 as investors awaited clues on the trajectory of US monetary policy. The spot price fell 0.5 percent to $4,576.30 per ounce, after touching a three-month high earlier this week. US gold futures also slid, dropping 0.8 percent to $4,629.00 per ounce.
The decline in gold prices comes as investors weigh the impact of potential higher interest rates on non-yielding assets like gold. Higher interest rates typically reduce demand for gold, which is often seen as a hedge against inflation. However, some investors may be taking a cautious approach to gold due to its relatively high price.
The decline in gold prices was not limited to the precious metal itself. Other commodities like silver, palladium, and platinum also fell, with spot silver dropping 1 percent to $68.54 per ounce, palladium falling 0.8 percent to $1,339.84, and platinum losing 0.6 percent to $1,834.83.
