Gold Prices Drop as US Consumer Confidence Hits Lowest Level Since January
The gold market is experiencing modest selling pressure despite a decline in US consumer confidence to its lowest level since January. The Consumer Confidence Index fell to 89.4 in August, lower than the expected 90.3 and down from July's 90.8.
According to The Conference Board, the Present Situation Index rose by 6.8 points to 121.2, offsetting three consecutive monthly declines. However, the Expectations Index dropped by 5.8 points to 68.2, driven by consumer pessimism about future business and labor market conditions.
Spot gold last traded at $4,622.70 an ounce, down 0.62% on the day. Despite this decline, Dana M. Peterson, Chief Economist at The Conference Board, noted that consumers were more pessimistic about business conditions and the labor market over the next six months, but remained optimistic about household incomes.
