Gold Prices Edge Higher as Investors Await Crucial US Inflation Data
The precious metals market began the new trading week in a cautious state as gold prices only ticked slightly higher, reflecting investor wait-and-see sentiment ahead of key US inflation data releases.
Spot gold rose 0.1% to $4,407.27 per ounce, supported by a weakening US dollar, but gains were capped as the market had yet to establish a clear direction for monetary policy.
Chris Weston, head of research at Pepperstone Group, described the market as being in a tug-of-war: 'Gold prices remain locked in a battle between buyers and sellers, with neither side showing enough conviction to establish a clear and sustained upward or downward trend.'
The upcoming US Producer Price Index (PPI) release on September 10 and Consumer Price Index (CPI) report on September 11 will provide a clearer picture of inflationary pressures, thereby shaping expectations for the next move by the US Federal Reserve (Fed).
