Gold Prices Hold Steady Ahead of Warsh Speech at Jackson Hole
Gold prices remained largely unchanged on Friday as investors held back from making significant bets ahead of Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's speech at the Jackson Hole symposium. The US Treasury had announced support measures for long-duration bonds earlier in the week, driving gold to a more than three-month high of $4,696.18 on Tuesday.
However, traders were hesitant to build large positions as they awaited Warsh's remarks, which may provide clues about the central bank's policy path. Fed officials had expressed concerns about US inflation earlier in the week, with Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid and Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack suggesting that interest rates may need to rise to curb inflation.
As a result, gold tends to lose appeal in high-interest rate environments as it offers no yield. Market analyst Fawad Razaqzada at Forex.com noted that investors are trying to move away from the US dollar and seek alternative currencies with better fiscal discipline.
