Gold Prices in India Fall as Silver Rates Rise
Gold prices in India declined on Wednesday, August 26, while silver rates rose. According to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), gold fell by ₹610 per 10 grams to around ₹1.61 lakh. In contrast, silver gained ₹2,299 per kilogram, taking its price to approximately ₹2.44 lakh per kg.
The latest movement in precious metal prices comes amid continued volatility in the market during 2026. Despite Wednesday's decline, gold remains significantly more expensive than it was at the beginning of the year.
On December 31, 2025, 10 grams of gold was priced at around ₹1.33 lakh. The rate has now climbed to approximately ₹1.61 lakh, representing an increase of around ₹28,000.
Anindya Banerjee, Senior Vice President and Head of Commodity Research at Kotak Securities, stated that gold continues to receive support from both retail investors and central banks. Central banks, including the Reserve Bank of India, have been adding gold to their reserves.
Banerjee's projection suggests that gold could potentially move towards ₹1.70 lakh per 10 grams by December, while silver could rise towards ₹3 lakh per kg. However, precious metal prices remain sensitive to global economic conditions, interest rates, currency movements and investor demand.
